August 2014 Meeting

August 26, 2014

I. Call to order 

 

Todd Christopherson, President, called to order the regular meeting of the Mountain Lions Baseball Boosters at 7:00p.m. on August 26, 2014 at Hillcrest Middle School. 

 

II. Roll call

The following officers were present: Todd Christopherson, President, Dean Cavaletto, Vice President, Heather Dyer, Treasurer, and Gretchen Cobb, Secretary. 

 

III. Approval of minutes from last meeting 

 

The minutes were approved as issued. 

 

IV. New business 

a) The activity schedule was discussed and many volunteers offered to contribute their time to coordinate activities.  We are still in need of volunteers for many activities and events.  Please contact Todd Christopherson if you are interested in volunteering.  Current volunteers are noted below:

b) Fall Baseball Activities and Opportunities 

1. Field day will be Saturday September 13th.  Please bring tools and join us in working on the field. 

2. The booster club will purchase shirts and hats for the fall club team.  It is estimated that the players will be responsible for minimal fees that roughly approximate $50 per player per tournament.  The tournament fees will need to be paid directly to the booster club and not to the bookstore. 

3. Camp begins September 15 and should be paid directly to the bookstore. The cost is $125.00 per player. 

4. Strength training/speed camp will begin in October and will be $69 per month.  The training will be baseball oriented.  These fees should be paid directly to the strength training company. 

5. Lance Billingsley discussed that he will send out a rubric for tryouts 2-3 weeks before tryouts. 

6. There is also an opportunity for players to participate in a free throwing program run by the seniors.  This is generally 2 days per week and is student run (there are no coaches present).

April 2014 Meeting

Board Members Present:

President - Todd Christopherson; Vice President - Dean Cavaletto; Secretary - Chris Collura

 

Todd opened the meeting and thanked everyone for coming. A motion was made to approve March 11, 2014 minutes.

 

Coach Billingsley spoke briefly about the summer and fall camps.  He also talked about the Pilots teaming up with Cleats for club ball and possibly having a majority of Ridge players playing for the Pilots if they did not already play for another club team.

 

POKER TOURNAMENT - The poker tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 and 1 pm.  Baskets still needed from Freshman, JV and Varsity.  Emails will be sent out to remind everyone. Early registration can be sent to Sandra Gard or Heather Dyer. 

 

BANQUET - The end of the year banquet will be held at the Arrowhead Country Club on Wednesday, May 14.  Scott Bohall has discussed the date with the country club and food options.   The cost will be $20 per person.  Booster will pay for the players and coaches.  

 

SENIOR DAY - Senior day will be Monday, April 28, the last scheduled home game for Varsity.  Chris Collura, Donna Rochon and Jeannette Zambito have volunteered to coordinate senior day.  

 

PHOTOS - Myke Ruff has been taking photos throughout the season of the all the boys.  Anyone interested in receiving photos can contact Myke.  His packages range from $150 for CD full of pictures, individual for $25 or 10 for $75.  A portion of the money will go back to the booster club.

 

FUNDRAISING - The booster club would like to continue to fundraise through the summer months, to include fundraising dinners at different restaurants, another poker tournament, etc.

February 2014 Meeting

February 11, 2014 7:03 p.m.


BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:
President - Open; Vice President - Open; Heather Dyer -Treasurer; Chris Collura – Secretary

Heather and Chris started the meeting and thanked everyone for coming.
A motion was made to approve the January minutes.Let everyone know that effective immediately John Neubauer stepped down from the Board.

Coach Billingsley talked about the completion of tryouts, parent night and team night at cleats.BANNERS – Heather updated that we currently have four banners paid for.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Heather read email update sent from Jerry, we have 84 confirmed golfers and everything is in place with Legends. Scott talked about silent auction and raffle items. We could use more gift cards. He will email a list of items we currently have. Need to confirm who is doing the tee box signs, sold 14 already.

SUPER BOWL POOL – Raised $800 in the super bowl pool.OPEN DISCUSSION – Joe Sandman would like to see the boys do more community service to help with college applications, such as canned food drives, or have the booster club donate a portion of their fundraising proceeds to a charity. It was suggested implementing these things at a later date, possibly at the beginning of the next school year.

January 2014 Meeting

January 14, 2014 7:04pm

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:

Heather started meeting welcomed and thanked everyone for coming.A motion was made to approve the December minutes.

BANNERS – With John running late, Heather spoke about the finalization of the Banners. John arrived with copies of the banner proposals, discussed what each level was and that the finalized banner information would be emailed to the members in the next day or so.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Scheduled for February 22 at Legends. Scott secured putting contest and has 30 iems or so for the auction. Flyers are ready to go out and be emailed to members and golfers from past tournaments. Several things still needed such a golf bags and items to put into the golf bags.

CONCESSION TRAILER – Thanks to Todd Christopherson for his continued work on the concession trailer. He is need of funds to continue to work on the project.

POKER TOURNAMENT – Put on hold until a future date.SUPER BOWL POOL - Heather agreed to be in charge of super bowl pool $20 per box split with booster club. Pay out $200, $200, $200 & $400.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:01. The next booster club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Middle School.

 

December 2013 Meeting

December 17, 2013 7:06pm

John Neubauer welcomed and thanked everyone for coming. A motion was made to approve the November minutes.

 

ANDY HULL TOURNAMENT rescheduled for January 25 same date as Poker Night. Discussion had weather or not to move Poker but members agreed to keep the January 25 date.

 

BANNERS – John will work on the Banners and get a template together with prices to show at the next meeting.

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Scheduled for February 22 at Legends. Nothing new to update.

 

CONCESSION TRAILER – Todd Christopherson received the donation he needed to start the trailer. Will work on it with help from parents.

 

COACH BILLINGSLY talked about winter camp scheduled to start January 13 will be $150 per student. Tryouts scheduled for February 10-12th. No future field days scheduled. February 17 will be parent meeting and February 19th will be team night at Cleats.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:31. The next booster club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Middle School.

 

November 2013 Meeting

November 15, 2013 7:00 p.m.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:

John Neubauer welcomed and thanked everyone for coming.

Coach Billingsley quickly reviewed the Wiffle Ball Tournament for scheduled for November 16 and concession sign ups.A motion was made to approve the October minutes.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – John spoke with Legends and they agreed to $65 a person and Coyote Lakes was at $50 a person. A vote from the majority of members present was to keep the golf tournament at Legends.Discussion was had regarding the silent auction and raffles, plus volunteers for the tournament for registration, gathering donations, selling raffles, taking pictures, etc.

TEAM NIGHT – Is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 at Brother’s Pizza.

POKER NIGHT – A target date was discussed for a possible poker fundraiser. Saturday, January 25 and then boxes for the Super Bowl pool could be sold at the same time.

BANNERS - John spoke about selling the Banners between $300 and $500. More for a premium space, plus tickets to games and announcements between innings. John will work on getting samples and speaking with Mr.Lang.There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. The next booster club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Middle School.

 

October 2013 Meeting

October 15, 2013 7:05 p.m.


BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:
Donna Rochon President; John Neubauer - Vice President; Heather Dyer -Treasurer; Chris Collura – Secretary

 

John Neubauer welcomed and thanked everyone for coming.

 

Donna Rochon announced that she is resigning as President due to personal issues. The Booster Club is now seeking nominations for a new President and asked everyone to think about possibly running for the board. Heather nominated Kelly Thomas, who responded that he would think about it.

 

A motion by Sal Collura and seconded by Julie Wilhite to approve the September minutes.

 

The floor was turned over to Coach Lance who updated the parents on the field maintenance and thanked all those who helped. Camp is scheduled for November 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27. The wiffle ball tournament will be held on November 16 and the Andy Hull Tournament to be held on November 21 and 22, and Mountain Ridge will be a host school.Discussion was had again regarding the tax credits and to make sure it is applied to the Mountain Ridge Baseball program.

 

BANNERS – Robb Scott said the Football Program got their banners through Cleats for $75.00 each, they charges $500 a banner which included half time announcements and tickets to the home games. Scott Bohall and Marny Christopherson volunteered to be in charge of the banners.

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT – John Neubauer spoke with Legends and they would charge $75 a head which includes a Wild West Buffet of pulled port and chicken sandwiches, water and iced tea. Any extra meals would be $16.75. The question was raised about getting prices from other golf courses such as Coyote Lakes. The football team had their golf tournament there and the charge was about $35 - $50 per person with food. It was also suggested we have the food portion off site either at Dillons or somones backyard. John said he would go back to Legends and Robb Scott said he would contact Coyote Lakes and see what they would charge.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Other fundraising ideas were to have poker tournament.

September 2013 Meeting

September 23, 2013 7:02 pm

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Donna Rochon/Julie Willhite – President/Former President, John Neubauer – Vice President, Heather Dyer – Treasurer, Chris Collura – Secretary

Meeting opened with Donna Rochon thanking everyone for coming and introduction of the board members.

 

Julie mentioned that there will be 3 board positions opening as Donna, John and Chris will be leaving at the end of the 2014 school year.

 

Donna introduced the varsity and assistant varsity coaches, Coach Lance Billingsley and Coach Reynolds. Coach Billingsley said that Coach Steiner will remain the freshman coach, the head JV coaching position to be announced and that Artie Cox will be the Pitching coordinator.

Coach Billingsley went on to discuss the improvements to the field, including the painting of the dugouts and fences. All paint was generously donated by Dunn Edwards. Coach also purchased $10,000 worth of supplies such as bases, pitching machines and misc. equipment. The booster club purchased about $7,000 in dirt, sand and clay.

Lance is hoping to have a wiffle ball tournament in November to help put money into the student fundraising account and a fundraising tournament through the Andy Hull foundation.

Donna also mentioned another way to generate money is through the use of tax credits and to make sure to specify boy’s baseball program.

 

Golf Tournament - This year’s golf tournament is tentatively scheduled for February 22. We will need volunteers for signing people in, raffles, silent auction etc. Last year the booster club raised between $16 and $20,000 which went back into the baseball program.This year the booster club would like to add some breakfast such as coffee, donuts and muffins. Artie Cox will donate the coffee for the tournament.

 

Team Night - Robin Swartz has volunteered again this year to be in charge of the team night fundraisers.

 

Banners - Deer Valley School District is allowing banners again. We will speak with Rob Scott he did the banners for the football program.

 

Treasurers Report – Heather Dyer reported that there is $386.50 left in the account. We need to work on some fundraisers that will bring in money quickly.

 

With no further business, meeting adjourned at 7:52. The next meeting will be held on October 15 at Hillcrest, the room across from the gym.
